In the play Romeo and Juliet, there were many deaths that occured that changed the path of the story. For an example, the death of Romeo had a big impact on the story in a short amount of time. However, the most important and impactful deaths of the play, Romeo and Juliet, were definitely not caused by themselves. The person that I believe that is responsible for the death of Romeo and Juliet is Tybalt. The reason why is because Tybalt started the fight on the street, and his ignorance lead to many misbeliefs that changed the story. First of all, the scene where Tybalt and Mercutio were fighting, Tybalt was the one who instigated the fight. Believe it or not, even though starting the fight may not have been much, but the killing of Mercutio by Tybalt was very impactful to the play. Tybalt started by making remarks at Mercutio, and Mercutio did not appreciate the remarks. "Follow me coles for I will speak to them/ A word with one of you?"(Romeo and Juliet 3.1.14-21). Tybalt first when up to Mercutio and Benvolio and tried to talk with them. "Mercutio, thou consort'st with Romeo" (Romeo and Juliet 3.1.14-21). Tybalt's words were not taken well by Meructio, and that is what lead to the fight. If Tybalt had not confronted Mercutio and Benvolio, the fight would not have happened, and Mercutio would not have passed away. After Tybalt slayed Mercutio, this lead …show more content…
However, this is false. Romeo is not at fault for killing Tybalt because all Romeo did was stand up for Mercutio. Tybalt was the one that started it by starting the fight between him and Mercutio, and killing Mercutio. Also, Tybalt's ignorance lead to the fight between Romeo and Tybalt which caused himself to get killed by Romeo. "The citizens are up, and Tybalt slain," (3.1.131).
