Romeo And Juliet Vs Zeferilli

In my opinion, the most effective portrayal of the balcony scene was found in Zeffirelli's version. Not only is the play presented better in the Zeferilli version, but it also agreed more with Shakespeare’s time. In the modern version, the portrayal of Romeo’s impulsive, love-sick behaviour is not expressed as sufficiently in contrast to the Zeferilli version. We can see how young and impulsive lovers are when they profess their love for each other. We can see this when Romeo in the Zeferilli version climbs through a forest and trees to get to Juliet. Throughout the play, one could distinguish that in the modern version, Juliet was not as expressive in comparison to the Juliet in the Zeferilli version. In today’s modern society, it would be

Two feuding families; two young lovers; one story of forbidden love. Romeo and Juliet is a tragic love story which encompasses an essence that defines the story no matter the context. Franco Zeffirelli’s 1968 version of Romeo and Juliet embraces the physical violence, rivalry, death of lovers and reconciliation, thus constructing a movie with the same emotional response intended by the original play. Zeffirelli’s interpretation of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet greatly reflects the major changes during the era. The 1960’s was a time of civil unrest, youth rebellion of moral and civil rights and a period in history where authority was questioned.…

The screenplay is written by Craig Pearce in early 1990’s. The success of adaptation depends on how the director visualize through his ideas. In the Zeffirelli’s version Romeo is using the bushes to hide from Juliet and the nurse. When Romeo has the guts to speak out to Juliet in this version it startles her that he is there. When they start talking Romeo uses the tree right by the balcony to climb up to get to the ledge that is on the side of the balcony to hug and kiss Juliet. The reason Romeo got up to this level to find Juliet talking to herself about loving him he just wanted to get away from his friends that were calling his name because he ran off. In the new more modern version of Baz Luhrmann he doesn’t even have Romeo and Juliet talking to each other on the balcony ,but talking in a pool.…

Romeo and Juliet Movie Comparison The classic play of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare has been turned into a movie which are directed by Franco Zeffirelli and Baz Luhrmann. These two movies are similar and different in many ways and the directors of each play tried to put their spin on this classic play. There are many scenes which are different and similar but one is Act 5 Scene 3. One difference is that when Romeo came to find Juliet she was in a church while in the newer movie but in the older movie she was in the Capulet’s vault. When Romeo discovers Juliet in the older movie she is in the Capulet’s vault alongside Tybalt this vault is in a cemetery and is very dingy and dark.…

Zeffirelli's version took place in a large courtyard of an enormous home, and looks to be representative of the time in which the story took place. Luhrmann’s version takes place in a modern courtyard with a swimming pool and an elevator. Zeffirelli's version also takes place at night and is darkly lit by the moon, stars, and windows of the home. In the latter version, Romeo steps into the courtyard and it immediately hums to life with modern electric lighting, contrary to the time in which the original story took place. Not only does the setting of Zeffirelli’s version better portray the story, but the dialogue does as well.…

After viewing the Romeo and Juliet balcony scene from the Luhrmann 1996 version, Zeffirelli 1968 version, and the 1961 West Side Story version, I prefer the West Side Story version of the balcony scene because of how connected I felt as the two character’s sang and expressed their love for eachother. All three films were shot in color which brought life to the scene, but West Side brought greater life to the scene by having the character’s sing there lines. The music not only got my attention but it also made me feel as if I were a part of the scene. The scene includes all factors that were used in the original scene of Romeo and Juliet except the language; tone that made both characters seem in love, passion, and the secrecy of when they meet…

Instead of the use of lighting as in the 1996 film, Zeferelli's film was very dark and the use of flame outside was used to create lighting. This scene took the focus off of background view and was directed more towards the Montague boys. The first time Romeo and Juliet saw each other was when Juliet was involved in a traditional dance involving many people. The background was set in a outdated style with boring colors in the background. Torches were lit in the windows, and some white candles were lit near the dance floor.…

In Shakespear’s and Franco Zeffirelli’s Romeo and Juliet, there are many similarities, but there are also many different substantial differences that can change the impression the viewer may get if they only watch the movie without reading the play. To begin, there are many similarities between Zeffirelli 's and Shakespeare 's Romeo and Juliet. One similarity is that Romeo is very moody; in the beginning of the movie, Romeo can be seen frequently slumped over and talking in a very downcast manner. Similarly, in the play, Romeo is found by Benvolio laying moping around saying, “Should without eyes see pathways to his will!” (I.i.162).…

Shakespeare's well-known play 'Romeo and Juliet' was modernised by Baz Luhrmann and made into a substandard film, that is relative to a modern audience. Baz has done this by changing selected setting's such as the petrol station fight, whilst also changing the costumes of the characters to be more modern and modifying the interpretation of the characters from the original play. Baz Luhrmann has attempted to modify the play 'Romeo and Juliet' by changing selected setting's throughout the film. Early in the film viewers witness a fight between the Montague's and Capulet's, this scene has been drastically modified so the audience is able to relate to it. During the original play the fight is set in an old town square, Baz Luhrmann has changed…

The instant Romeo first sees Juliet, he forgets all about Rosaline, and falls head over heals in love with Juliet. Romeos attitude to love becomes more mature, as the relationship between him and Juliet gets more intense. Love is not the only deep emotion he feels, he shows there is anger inside of him which coerces him to avenge the death of his friend Mercutio. This is showing how impulsive Romeo is with his feelings, that he would murder someone just to avenge a friend’s death.…
