As Romeo and Juliet both grow they begin to learn what love means to them and how they will react to it. Romeo is seen throughout the beginning of the play battling with love and what it is after talking to Benvolio he decides that his initial love for Rosaline was unrequited and decides to find a better person (Levenson). Romeo is the challenge to those in the Elizabethan Era to whether or not the love they experience in their society is real. While today in our society people usually get married to someone they love in the society Romeo and Juliet lived in a world where they got married to who their parents love. The family feud is what destroys Romeo and Juliet and their love for each other, “In the course of action, Romeo and Juliet create and try to preserve new identities as adults apart from the feud, but it blocks their every attempt.”(Kahn). It shows how a feud between families to hold a place in society can destroy those in it not only killing Romeo and Juliet but both Tybalt Lady Montague and Romeo’s best friend Mercutio. The tragedy of the play is a conflict between the forces of what the world wants people to do and what people want to do
