Few people realize the gravity of leaving conflicts unresolved. In the famous play written by William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare tells the story of two people whose love cannot be subdued by the Piteous feud of their families. When a young man named Romeo comes across a fair maiden named Juliet, an infrangible love forms between the two, but to their utter dismay they find that their families are in a war only tragedy can quench. In Romeo and Juliet Shakespeare proves that unresolved conflicts will negatively affect others as seen through the inner-turmoil of the Prince, the love of Romeo and Juliet, and the deaths of Romeo and Juliet.
In Romeo and Juliet, Prince Escalus is deeply tormented by the Feud of the Montagues and the Capulets. After Escalus walks in upon people pertaining to the opposing families, he shows his inner turmoil when he says, “Throw your mistempered weapons to the ground, and hear the sentence of your moved Prince!” (1.1.89-90). When Romeo is serenading sweet Juliet with his tender worded poems the night he first meets her, he shows that they must hide their newborn love when he says “I have night’s cloak to hide me from their eyes, And but thou love me, let them find me here. My life were better ended by their hate” (2.2.81-83). This shows that Romeo and Juliet’s love is oppressed with the threat of death because of the unresolved conflicts of their forefathers. The love of Romeo and Juliet is a perfect example of how unwarranted and unresolved conflict will be detrimental and oppressive to those affected by
