Romeo And Juliet Unrequited Love

In The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, Juliet isn’t Romeo’s only love interest. The first woman that Romeo is infatuated with is Rosaline. While she is only briefly mentioned, it could lead readers to believe that Romeo’s love for Juliet isn’t as strong as hers is for him. In Rosaline's case, it is an unrequited love, while with Juliet, things move very fast and they end up getting married. “Why, such is love’s transgression. Griefs of mine own lie heavy in my breast, Which thou wilt propagate, to have it press’d With more of thine. Throughout the Capulet’s party, all Romeo wants to do is be with her. They meet, kiss and Romeo forgets all about Rosaline, for his heart is now full of love for another girl. His immediate change in emotions could be love at first sight, or just a new infatuation with a pretty girl. “Romeo, away be gone! The citizens are up, and Tybalt slain. Stand not amazed. The Prince will doom thee death if thou art taken. Hence, be gone, away!” (page 684) This passage is said by Benvolio after Romeo kills Tybalt. Moments before, Tybalt had killed Mercutio. Romeo acts repulsively and kills Tybalt. He does without thinking and his actions make another death. This is further proof that Romeo has very severe emotions. His actions could later be regrettable. With all of Romeo’s rash choices and feelings, it leads me to believe that his feelings for Juliet aren’t true. The choices he makes are aimless.
