Romeo demonstrates multiple characteristics of a Petrarchan lover. He has an unrequited love who shows no interest in him what so ever despite his, “She will not stay the siege of loving terms, / Nor bide th’ encounter of assailing eyes, / Nor ope her lap to saint-seducing gold” (1.1. 220-222). Romeo tells his cousin of his love’s astounding beauty, “To calls her, exquisite, in question more” (1.1. 238). He says that she has sworn to live chaste, causing her beauty to die when she dies since she won’t have children.
