Character often have an opposite, who does the opposites than them. This shows their own traits and highlights the others personality. In the beginning of the play, we are introduced to Benvolio, who is stopping a fight between Abraham and Sampson, behind him enters Tybalt who draws his sword. They start arguing and disagreeing on opinions. Benvolio says “ I do but keep the peace”(I.I.69) and Tybalt replies “ What drawn and talks of peace? I hate the world”(I.I.71). These two characters speak of the same word, yet they have such opposite opinions that it for one shows their own opinion, but it also gives the others opinion a greater importance. With these two characters having opposite opinions, it suggests their opposite characteristics. It is true too, Benvolio is out to try to help others when Tybalt is always trying to hurt someone. As Shakespeare explores the uses for opposites, it is easy to see that opposites are not just an opposite of something, it is actually the opposite for it helps emphasize an emotion or an action.
