Is Romeo and Juliet really a love story, or tale of obsession and desperation? Merriam-Webster’s dictionary states that love is,” A feeling of strong or constant affection for a person.” Strong feelings of love can be seen, as one would expect, through the compassion Romeo and Juliet share for each other when they first meet. On the flip side, Merriam-Webster defines desperation and obsession as “A state of hopelessness leading to rashness” and “A state in which someone thinks about someone or something constantly or frequently especially in a way that is not normal” respectively.
