The mournful pun Romeo uses at the party conveys the message of how caught up he is with Rosaline as it is like a black cloud over his head not allowing him to do anything else. Romeo remourses to Mercutio: “You have dancing shoes / With nimble soles. I have a soul of lead / so stakes me to the ground I cannot move,” (1.4 ll 14-16).
