In Romeo and Juliet, a tragic play written by William Shakespeare, the topic of young love comes up as a major theme. Romeo, a Montague, falls in ‘love’ with a Capulet, Juliet. Juliet knows that her parents are setting up an arranged marriage but still continues to ‘love’ Romeo. They both commit suicide because they feel like they can’t live without each other. In the play, Shakespeare suggests that young love can make people do irrational actions; as shown in acts 1, 2 and 5. My first example of young love as irrational is in Act I, Scene 2. In this scene, Romeo is talking to Benvolio about how difficult it is to be in love with someone who doesn’t feel the same way. Benvolio tries to help Romeo get out of his funk by suggesting that
