In William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, characters are often responsible for their fate. To attribute ignorance and misinformation as the most important cause of Romeo and Juliet’s death is accurate. The basis of this tragedy is the lack of knowledge and miscommunication between characters. This is the product of characters like the Friar, Tybalt and the Capulets who make decisions without learning or knowing the true nature of people and events. Romeo and Juliet are victims of the uninformed decisions caused by ignorance and misinformation.

This is because of their lack of care and communication. In Act III Scene iv, Capulet organises a marriage for Juliet on the "Thursday" of the week (IV.iii.20). This ironic plot theme identifies how unaware lord Capulet is to the marriage of Romeo and Juliet, as well as setting Juliet’s fate on the path of disaster. Therefore, lord Capulet’s lack of communication sets Juliet’s fate on the path of disaster. In Act III Scene v, Lord Capulet becomes enraged at Juliet for asserting she is not getting married. “Hang thee, young baggage! disobedient wretch!” (III.v.160-161). Lord Capulet is unsupportive of Juliet’s desires. Although she is his child and seems to care for her in earlier scenes, he neglects her. Therefore, Capulet’s lack of care and affection is a product of his lack of communication. In Act III Scene v, Lady Capulet is "done" with Juliet and refuses to " talk" or help her daughter (III.v.202-203). Lady Capulet stops caring about Juliet’s wishes. This uncaring act pressures Juliet into irrational decision like drinking the vial. By not considering her daughter's feelings, Lady Capulet's lack of care causes ignorance.
