Do you think taking impulsive risks is necessary for teens to do? Well in William Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet they took a lot of impulsive risks throughout their lives. The star-crossed couple fell in love at first sight but they didn’t realize that they were from two families that hated each other. They then got married behind their family’s backs and then loss their lives by being so impassioned for each other. At this age teenager’s brains are still developing says David Dobbs in the article National Geographic-“Teenage Brains”. This is why Romeo and Juliet take impulsive risks. Before Juliet met Romeo to be she wasn’t so hasty and eager for love. Her parents wanted her to marry Paris but she didn’t want to. Juliet says at fist how marriage is “an honor that I dream not of” (1.3.71). She then met Romeo and eager for love, and disobeyed her mother and father rules. She also broke the promise she told her mother which was to obey but she actually warned her mom not to hold her breath. Juliet had a whole new mindset; she went through everything to find out if Romeo was married. In Act III scene 4 after her and Romeo got married; her father told her that she was to marry Paris in two days. Not knowing that she has already been married. Juliet parents didn’t listen to her when she was trying to tell them about Romeo so she went to Friar for help and asked him what to do. Before Romeo met Juliet he was lovesick because of Rosaline rejection. Romeo stayed out all time of the night and slept during the day from all the depression. He was basically on his own and had to get over things on his own. His best friend Benvolio helped him and talked to him. Romeo parents should’ve been in his life more instead of letting of letting him have leeway. In the article “The Teen Brain: Still Under Construction” it says that “these age-related changes shape how different parts of the brain are activated in response to experience, and terms of behavior, the urgency and intensity of emotional reactions”. Romeo dad left everything in Benvolio hands instead of doing his duty. Romeo then saw Juliet and forgot all about Rosaline he then quoted “Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight! / For I ne’er saw true beauty till this night”(1.5.52-53). He took an impulsive risk by going to Juliet balcony without her parents knowing about him. He took a risk because if Juliet cousin Tybalt would’ve found out he were there he would’ve got killed. Romeo accepted Juliet proposal impulsively. Tybalt kills Mercutio and Romeo kills Tybalt in which he regrets. Romeo gets banished and is worried about Juliet. Later on after Romeo finds Juliet sleeping in the tomb he thinks she is dead so he kills himself without thinking things
