The poem was describing the imagination of a child from the child’s perspective. It would make sense to exaggerate it with a hyperbole because children’s imaginations are wild. This hyperbole serves to convey that kid’s minds and imaginations are exaggerations and not a true reflection of the real world.
Holden Caulfield, the character who said this, brushes off his brain tumor as being non serious. However, to have a surgery for a brain tumor is a very serious thing. They are being sarcastic because they offer to make fun of the speaker. I can imagine a sassy type of character saying this.
In Romeo and Juliet, a messenger named Friar Laurence was sent to inform Romeo about Juliet’s plan to fake poison herself. However, the message was failed to be delivered and Romeo never knew that Juliet didn’t actually poison herself. Later on in the story, Romeo finds Juliet on her death bed and actually thinks she is
