Romeo And Juliet Flaws

Horrible things happen to people every day, whether it be because of their own flaws or flaws of others. The story of Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, has these examples of harm. Classic Greek tragedy is when a person causes harm to themselves or others because of one’s own actions, while classic Greek catastrophe is a harmful event caused by nature or other people’s actions. For Romeo and Juliet, the events in this story are tragic as they brought many pains upon themselves, but for many others in Verona, the events in the story are a horrible catastrophe. Romeo, the only son of Montague and Lady Montague has many flaws that ultimately lead to his death. In the story, Romeo is very impulsive, impatient, and in a way, lusty. All of these traits cause him to leave his first love, Rosaline, to have an extremely hasty marriage with Juliet after only just meeting. Even though they are from separate and feuding families, Romeo arranges a secret marriage so no one will know. The marriage of Romeo and Juliet caused the deaths of many in both the Capulet and Montague houses, and to the parents these events are catastrophes. The “death” of Juliet, for example, caused woe and sadness to all of Capulet house, and even to Romeo, who killed himself because of this. Even Romeo's banishment caused the death of Lady Montague who died because “grief” on her son’s exile, “hath stop her heart” (5.3.211).
