Romeo And Juliet Fight Quotes

Decent Essays
In William Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet, the extreme group affiliation between the Capulets and Montagues causes conflict. For example, in act one, scene one, the servants of the Capulets and Montagues get into a fight due to their masters being enemies. Sampson and Gregory are servants of the house of Capulet and they decide to pick a fight with Abram and Balthasar of the house of Montague. Gregory says, “The quarrel is between our masters, and us their men” ( 1.1.18). Sampson and Gregory decide to bite their thumbs at Abram and Balthasar to start a fight. The quote states that the Capulet fight with the Montagues specifically because their masters are adversaries. Their quarrel is between their masters, so the servants fight.

Shakespeare shapes ideas about conflict through the ever present nature of the feud. All characters in Shakespeare's play “Romeo and Juliet” find themselves effected by the conflict, especially Romeo and Juliet. Act 1 Scene 5 is very much a scene about love as it is the scene where Romeo and Juliet meet for the first time and share their first kiss. However, Shakespeare reminds the audience of the feud and how it will impact Romeo and Juliet's love by adding moments of conflict into the scene. This conflict is evident in the line spoken by Tybalt to Capulet “This, by his voice, should be a Montague/ Fetch me my rapier, boy ....…

“For this alliance may so happy prove to turn your households’ rancor to pure love,” plans Friar Lawrence (II.iii.98-99). From the beginning, Friar Lawrence expects Romeo and Juliet’s love to overpower the tensions between Capulets and Montagues. However, throughout the play their love simply enlarges the chasm between households, and even between members within the same family. Ironically, it is only when Romeo and Juliet commit suicide, thereby releasing any power they had previously had from their love, do the Capulets and Montagues finally reconcile. This shows that when love’s power clashed with the households’ power, the household power prevailed.…

Juliet's actions do make her courageous because of all of the horrible possibilities that could have happened to her while she was pretending to be dead. According to the text Juliet says "...chain me with roaring bears, or shut me nightly in a charnel house." (Act 4 Scene 1 lines 80-81) This shows that Juliet was courageous because she was okay with being in a room with dead bodies or be chained with bears so that she wouldn't marry Paris. The scene is set in a 21st century Zoo. Amongst all the odd assortments of living creatures, live two zoo animals who strike up an unlikely conversation about their lives as humans so many years ago. One of these being old Winston Churchill, known as Romeo by the zookeepers (oddly enough also the name of the cigar he smoked: Romeo y Julieta) who smugly swings in a hammock humming a Marie Lloyd music hall song while a sulking Adolf Hitler, known as Blondi swims alone in a fish tank nearby. Unfortunately but unsurprisingly for Hitler, he has transfigured into a Piranha in his afterlife meaning he spent most of his life as a fish, swimming alone in circles with the odd tap of the glass by a passing child. On this early morning, the pair sit in silence like they normally did however on this occasion the usually quiet Blondi was the one who began to speak.…
