In the play Romeo and Juliet, two lovers are put together by fate, but is ultimately separated by this strong force. Fate is a powerful force that has caused death, change, and choices which has caused many problems between the two families. Firstly, Romeo and Juliet may have been fated to meet, but this never meant that everything was going to turn out good. To start, Juliet thinks that “I see thee, now thou art below, As one dead in the bottom of a tomb. Either my eyesight fails or thou look'st pale.” (Act 3, Scene 5) This foreshadows the death of both of them. First, Peter comes up and asks Romeo “May God give you a good evening. Excuse me, sir, do you know how to read?” This is an example of how fate has changed the views; fate has come and has bestowed something that will change Romeo’s life. This has shown how fate has helped Romeo find someone else to fall in love with. He sees the list and he decides to show up to the ball party. This changes Romeo’s whole destiny and has given something good to Romeo in return. Next the prince says that they “Came to this vault to die and lie with Juliet. Where be these enemies?—Capulet! Montague! See what a scourge is laid upon your hate, That heaven finds means to kill your joys with love!” (Act 5, Scene 3) While they were fated to die, it has changed the overall meaning of the whole story. Even though their deaths brought sadness upon the whole town, it also brought them peace. With their fated deaths, it has brought change amongst the family and changed their views of each other. They have realized that their feud has brought sadness amongst them both and this led to their decision to be peaceful with one another. The two families had decided that the best direction they should take is to change, and this shows how fate was a big factor in helping the two families change their viewpoints.
