Love In Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet

Many will say that Romeo and Juliet is the best love story ever, but are Romeo and Juliet truly in love? Romeo and Juliet was written by Shakespeare. The story is about how Romeo and Juliet supposedly fall in love with first glance and later kill themselves because they could not be together. The feelings that Romeo and Juliet had for each other were not feelings of true love because Romeo loved Rosaline not too long before he knew Juliet, they barely knew each other, and all of the romantic things they say about each other are about their looks.
One reason that the feelings that Romeo and Juliet had for each other were not feelings of true love is that Romeo loved Rosaline not too long before he knew Juliet. In Act 1, scene 2, Romeo says, “If my eyes ever lie to me like that, let my tears turn into flames and burn them for being such obvious liars! A woman more beautiful than the

In Act ____, scene ___, ________ says,“Rise up, beautiful sun, and kill the jealous moon, The moon is already Diana is the goddess of the moon sick and pale with grief because you, Juliet, her maid, are more beautiful than she.” This proves Romeo does not truly love Juliet because he is only talking about her beauty. If someone is truly in love, it’s not just because of their lover’s beauty. In Act ____, scene ___, ________ says,“Oh, sweet Juliet, your beauty has made me weak like a woman, and you have softened my bravery, which before was as hard as steel.” This proves Romeo and Juliet were never in love because the only ‘romantic’ things they say to each other are about their ‘lover’s’ looks. In conclusion, Romeo and Juliet did not love each other because the moment they met, they started to talk about their undying love for each other. Even though, they didn’t even know each other’s names at the

Romeo and Juliet do show true love because of the sacrifices they have made in order to try and be with the other, the biggest one is they killed themselves to be with the other but also Romeo didn't attack Tybalt and Juliet drank a possibly lethal potion so she could not marry Paris and be with Romeo. These examples show true love through their sacrifices and their perseverance. Throughout the story of Romeo and Juliet they both several times say they would rather kill themselves than be without the other one, when Romeo gets banished he says he´s going to kill himself because being dead is better than being without Juliet. Juliet threatens to kill herself, when her father is going to marry her off to Paris, if the Friar couldn't think…

The emotional and dramatic quote from Romeo describes his feelings after he is told that Rosaline does no longer want to be with him. If the news of Rosaline is no longer wanting to be with him sends into a fit of sadness it is clear that he is uncombable of handling true and real love. Furthermore, it is not just Romeo who is overly emotional Juliet also exhibits this trait as demonstrated after Romeo is banished, she states she would rather die than be without Romeo. In conclusion, both Romeo and Juliet act based on their overly dramatic emotions, therefore, are unable to make clear and understandable decisions and it is very plausible that their overdramatic emotions lead them into believing they were in love even though the feeling were just a culmination of the events that were occurring at that…

Despite the fact that there are many instances in which the feelings of Romeo and Juliet seem to be lust, for example in the balcony scene where romeo was quick to jump out and talk to juliet when she offered him 'all of her', romeo and juliet are attracted to each other due to true love because Juliet gives Romeo the benefit of the doubt when he gets banished for killing tybalt, Juliet refuses to marry Paris, though she knows she will be disowned, and both characters commit suicide when they learn about the other's apparent death.…

One of the most controversial arguments regarding the play “Romeo and Juliet” is whether or not they are really in love. Many people believe the only reason Romeo forgets about Rosaline is because she refuses to sleep with him. In my opinion this is not the case. Romeo’s previous infatuation with Rosaline does not discredit his love for Juliet because his infatuation with Rosaline was just that, infatuation.…

The first reason to prove previous statement true is that, the relationship that Romeo and Juliet had was not true love, because they had no time to even get to know one another because they rushed into getting married, in (Act 2 . Scene 2 . 144-148) “Thy purpose marriage, send me word tomorrow, By one that I’ll procure to come to thee, and all my fortunes at thy foot i’ll lay, And follow thee, my lord, throughout the world. ” This quote that was stated by Juliet shows that they were not really in love…

This is not love because you do not just base someone off of their looks to get with them. This also shows that Romeo really just goes by what they look like because by context clues he did the same thing with Rosaline to get with her. Rosaline is another example because Romeo was so heartbroken he says over Rosaline but a soon as he seen Juliet it was bye-bye, Rosaline. This paragraph shows that Romeo only likes to really play around and goes by what girls look…

The definition of love states that there is an intense feeling of deep affection towards another present. From reading this first act, it seems as if what Romeo was feeling towards Juliet was not love; it could have been a brief infatuation at the first moment or lust. Certainly there must have been a physical attraction. Near the end of the first act at the party the characters are attending, the reader witnesses Romeo catching sight of Juliet and seemingly forgetting Rosaline, his apparent love that could not be topped, “O, she doth teach the torches to turn bright!/ It seems she hangs upon the cheek of night/ As a rich jewel in an Ethiop’s ear-/ Beauty too rich for use, for earth too dear!/”…

Romeo and Juliet only knew one another from a time span of about five days and were already trying to get married. Showing how Romeo could move on so quickly after being “heartbroken” over Rosaline shows how he always needs affection and wasn’t really in love with Rosaline. Juliet experiencing feelings she had never had for the first time, and how they rushed into marriage while only knowing one another for around five days, both show how they are too young to really experience what love…

Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy, not a love story. This statement has perpetually been a contentious issue, as plenty would believe that Romeo and Juliet is the finest love story of all time whilst others will argue that the story is not of love, but of lust. To make a well-informed decision, it is necessary to first comprehend and discuss the main themes and context of the play. Romeo and Juliet is a famous play, written by William Shakespeare about two teenagers, Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet, who fall into an ill-starred love and are obliged to keep it confidential. Their families are involved in a terrible feud and to love each other in public seems inconceivable for them.…
