Romeo And Juliet D Odyssey's

I found this section not only interesting, but despairing. One part I found intriguing was Juliet d’Orsey’s constant blaming of herself as being an unpleasant child. “Really! . . . Wasn’t I an awful child!” (Findley 154). She was not a bad child at all. Actually, the contrary; she was normal. Every child has disobeyed and done things they should not of. It is normal and, usually, for some people, it is the only way they learn. They need to experience things in their harshest to understand. They are compelled to learn the hard way, it is all a part of human behaviour, but the poor girl thought of it as being objectionable.
When Juliet gave Robert that box: “Right on the box it says: `Wax matches—for all kinds of weather!’ And the candles had

The brutality and pride that those boys took from Robert cannot even be measured. It was as if they ripped away any self he had left. They had brutalised him, stealing away all his decency. There is not even the right word to explain how horrible the incidence was for him. And may I ask what he did to deserve it? What would any human being have done to be allowed to be so violated in that fashion? What horrible thing had he done? Nothing. The same is true for the Jews in World War Two. What did they ever do to be beaten and shot to death? Or the women being raped without any regrets from the Germans? Who would ask for that brutality? It was only because they were Jewish. Now, how horrendous is that? The thought of how people could be so cruel to one another is outstanding. I cannot comprehend why people commit atrocities of that nature to one another. However, I think we like to make excuses for our actions. For example, Robert Ross says this to the insane Captain Leather, “If an animal had done this—we would call it mad and shoot it” (Findley 186) over the bombing of the barn that killed over 50 horses. For there must be a reason for everything. This is because humans are naturally good as I have said prior, so for someone to kill another human being there must be a reason for him to be so angry or crazy. Well, let me tell you if that is the case, then …show more content…
His anger is an indicator of the intense emotion and feelings he has for animals, something seen throughout. Robert looks over the carnage and thinks the above quote to himself. Robert indicts humanity and the act of war, stating that if any animal had done anything like what these soldiers were perpetrating, the animal would be put down. Instead, he shoots Captain Leather, someone Robert sees as a human embodiment of ignorance and arrogance. He holds Captain Leather responsible for not letting him evacuate the animals earlier. As a result, they are now dead. This is a criminal action in Robert's opinion, a view of what is most important to

“What is meant to be will always be.” This is a widely spread quote that explains the power of fate. Many people choose to believe that that’s what guides them in life and along their journey in love. In the play The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet and the story “Pyramus and Thisbe” destiny is not what lead them down their downward spiral. Personal choice impacted the characters in a greater manner than fate and destiny.…

In novel the wars by Timothy Findley, animals are extremely important and play a large role throughout the novel, Particularly to the protagonist Robert Ross. As Robert's connection with animals strengthen his connection with humanity weakens. Robert's connection with humanity previous to war was only strong with those who have a cavern connection to animals. This is evident as Robert emphasizes his admiration to Longboat who is a native Canadian and remark him as his role model. Robert wants to be like his role model he wants to run freely, and look the same way Longboat does, Robert "wishes that he was red.…

There are many people you could blame for the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, but one might also say the two households are responsible for the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. An example of how the capulets play a part in this is when lady capulet says “Marry that ‘marry’ is the very theme I came to talk of. Tell me, daughter Juliet, how stands your disposition to get married”(Line fourteen, Act one Scene three, and Document B), the person one would blame in this quote would be the families(Capulet). This shows Lady Capulet is trying to pressure Juliet into getting married. Even after juliet says that she does not want to get married, her mother keeps pushing her into getting married by asking if she can “like of Paris’ love”( Line twenty four, Act…

During the harsh times of the Holocaust, many German soldiers were put in charge to harm Jews and rid of their existence. Some might consider this an act of evilness, but many do not recognize that many soldiers were forced into these positions and their environment had propagandized false accusations against the group of people, which filled them with…

This should be something all children and teens should know about because it teaches them the effect of bystanding as well as abuse of power. Kids should also understand that we were all born innocent human beings and that things such as this are capable of happening. Genocide was also an enormous part in this. The fact that Hitler almost tried to kill off all the Jews is despicable. I’m positively sure kids now would be like that 's horrible, why…

The announcement that particularly strikes me the most what Ex 2: 24 “So God heard their groaning; and God remembered His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.” This particular passage strikes me the most because God didn’t forget his people, hearing their cries for help to set them free from bondage. God could have easily ignored their groaning, but remember his promise with those before the Israelites he took notice of them. This passage implies that God was for the poor because it was the start of his plans to bring the Israelites out of poverty in a period of prosperity. The decision that I found to be particularly hasty was Romeo's decision to commit suicide. I believe that this decision was impulsive and fueled by Romeo's emotions. It lead to not only his death but his lover Juliet as well. If Romeo had been more thoughtful instead of letting his grief and desperate thoughts overwhelm him, he could of created a different ending for the play, one not as tragic. Before Romeo made such a decision, he had been waiting for Friar Lawrence in Mantua to send him news of the uplifting sorts when Balthazar had told him that Juliet had died.…

The theme for my children's book is that you can never stop loving someone. My story is about a mother and son. The sun describes far away places that he wants to discover and explore, but is worried if he is away from his mother for too long that she would stop loving him. The young boy’s mother expresses how her love is too strong to ever end and that she will always love her son. This theme pertains to the Odyssey.…

Robert had never aimed a gun at anything.” (Findley 24). Even while he was admitted, he wanted a strong dominant male figure to teach him to be a man and be able to kill, not only animals, but even humans. This can be seen when he looks up to Eugene Taffler and even BSM (battery sergeant major) during the event of Robert killing a horse. The lack of dominance Robert carries is acknowledged early on in the story.…

Athenians were part of the whole Greek society that believed in the gods who lived on top Mount Olympus, the highest point in Greece. They saw them as having control over every aspect on earth and in order to bring great blessings upon themselves they paid honours to the gods. These honours were paid in the form of sacrifices, offerings like works of art, money and other valuables to the gods’ sanctuaries, and festivals of songs, dances, prayers, and processions. For the first eight days of every month, Athens honoured the gods through a festival; on the third day Athena’s birthday was celebrated, Artemis’ birthday being celebrated on the sixth day, and her brother Apollo being honoured the next day. The Acropolis, which was reconstructed by…

In Conclusion, I think that Romeo is a young, inexperienced and impatient but loyal and brave boy. I think that his naivety plays a huge rule in this because love was taken as an extravagant feeling to have when it was not truly happy as the lovers can experience heartbreak and many other obstacles. It seems as if Romeo only more cautious and deliberate, his devastating ending could have been prevented (even though we have not finished the book yet). Amongst friends especially Mercutio, Romeo shows signs of his social and quick witted persona, even with his fond of verbal jousting that is mainly about sex. Lastly, Romeo is like every other male in the world who only unveils their true self to the people who they trust or who understand them.…

Romeo and Juliet has many elements of romance and tragedy, but some people argue that it is more of a romance than a tragedy. How can Romeo and Juliet be a romance if they were doomed from the start? Romeo and Juliet is more of a tragedy than a romance because their relationship was kept secret, they were not able to love each other to their full potential and they both commit suicide at the end due to a misunderstanding caused by one mistake. The first reason Romeo and Juliet is more of a tragedy than a romance is because they kept their relationship a secret. Because the Capulets and Montagues were enemies, Romeo and Juliet thought it was best to keep their love for each other and marriage hidden.…

Q1i. Knowing the poet’s thought is knowing where the poet’s thoughts come from, what inspires him/her, what motivated the poet to put his ideas together he/she did, and why the poet chose to present those ideas in the way he/she did. These things can be different for each poet, that’s why Ion makes such a distinction between Homer and every other poet (531a4). Socrates believes that God instills poets with these thoughts and ideas and possesses the poet (534c3). God is the source of the poet’s motivation and inspiration (534d3).…
