In shakespeare's story Romeo and Juliet you can clearly see the shift in personality both characters but in my opinion shakespeare makes it very noticeable in the young preteen Juliet. In this story Juliet is 13, during the course of about a week we can see how much she changes due to certain events that occur throughout the story.

In the beginning of the story when we are introduced to the charter she is very shy, obedient and submissive. In a particular scene we read about how shes shows the characteristics stated above. (2.3190-195) In this scene Romeo and Juliet are having a discussion about them getting married some time very soon. Romeo is all for the idea of them getting married but Juliet is have seconds thoughts about this. She

“And yet no farther than a woman's bird, let us hope for his hand.” - Juliet. In this quote she is wanting the approval of her father, showing that she is submissive and obedient. Another instance of her being innocent, shy, obedient ext, is in (1.5.7) This scene Juliet is being called by the nurse to go see Lady Capulet. When Juliet approaches her mother she states “Madan, I am here. What is your will?” By this quote you can tell that she is very obedient to her mother and willing to do what she is asked of her. These scenes are the very few times we see Juliet showing the submissive and obedient traits.

Now transitioning into more of the middle of the story this is where things begin to spice up... Romeo and Juliet are now married. And after a series of arguments between Mercutio, Tybalt and Romeo, Tybalt is killed when Romeo challenges him to a duel. After Tybalt is killed, Benvolio tries to get Romeo to flee the scene and Romeo just gets away just before all the citizens of Verona miraculously show up at the end of the scene. The prince arrives and is very displeased with what he see’s. One of the princes rules is that anyone

They are able to make wise decisions independently, these decisions can go either way. As juliet becomes further in love with ROmeo and more people get involved, she starts to make decisions to benefit the both of them. One of the decisions Juliet makes is to fake her own death. By doing this it will cut all ties with her parents plans for her to marry Pairs. In this scene Juliet is telling her mother what she wants and what is right for her. Compared to the beginning of the story where she was being very obedient and shy. “Well, thou hast comforted me marvelous Much. Go in and tell my lady I am gone, having displeased my father to Lawrence cell to make confession and to be absolved.” (.3.5.243-246) By this quote we can tell that she is standing up for herself and making independent decisions so she can meet with her husband. Compared to how Juliet responded to her parents regarding the arranged marriage between herself and pairs this is a huge difference in behavior. She is actively speaking out about her feeling and is more inclined to do what is in her best interest. Moving further, she is now set on her decisions to fake her own death. In this scene we see Juliet commit to drinking the potion to stage her own death. “Romeo, Romeo, Romeo! Cheers drink, I drink to thee.” In this quote we can easily see that she is now maturest she has been in this story. After a series of events, the pair of star

As the revered English young-adult novelist Aidan Chambers, known for such novels as Postcards from No Man’s Land and Dance on My Grave once said, “When you are in your teenage years you are consciously experiencing everything for the first time, so adolescent stories are all beginnings” (BrainyQuote). He was also known for his remarkably accurate depictions of adolescence in his novels for many around the globe, and for funding a writing “laboratory” for up-and-coming adolescent writers. And just as those stories are told, there needs to be the characters to tell them and give them justice. Romeo’s character is one who applies to that adolescent stereotype by being ignorant, just as Juliet is naïve, again fitting into a stereotypical adolescent…

With Paris being told by Juliet’s father he could marry her, this made Juliet even more upset, prompting the plan to escape her family. Paris often played a part in the role of why Juliet wanted to get married to Romeo, as she couldn’t see herself being married to Paris, and she didn’t like the thought of an arranged marriage. This, as well as Romeo being banished was what ultimately made Juliet upset and wishing to leave her family, and caused so many issues with trying to find a way to do so. As Juliet goes to Friar Laurence, he suggests that she should fake her death, knowing that she will be buried in a tomb and It would be easy for her to escape. Although at the time this seemed to be a clever idea, this is one of the main reasons why they kill themselves.…

Shakespeare shows how Romeo is an impetuous character through the many hasty decisions he makes. For example; when he is pouting over not being able to have a certain girl, his love is “soon forsaken” when he quickly finds another one (II.iii.67). This impatient behavior is seen frequently throughout the play. Upon seeing Juliet at the dance he is entranced by her “beauty too rich for use” so he pursues her right away. He even goes as far to say “I ne’er saw true beauty till this night” (I.v.45-51).…

When Romeo learns of Juliet’s apparent death, he immediately knew what he was going to do. “Experts say that even at ages 16 and 17, when compared to adults, juveniles on average are more likely to overlook alternative courses of action”(Teens Brains Hold key to their Impulsiveness). Romeo didn’t even think of any other alternative to killing himself and didn’t consider any of the consequences or the amount of pain it would cause both his family and Juliet’s. All he was thinking about was that he wanted to be with Juliet and that suicide was the only way to get that…

Shakespeare develops the idea that love leads to rash decisions through the behavior of the characters Juliet and Romeo. Juliet’s deep love for Romeo is the primary reason for her to make rash decisions in the play. First, after meeting Romeo at the Capulet feast, Juliet is beguiled by him. However, she is very distressed to discover he is a Montague, and the son of her family’s rival. Alone and upset, she says in her soliloquy, “Deny thy father and refuse thy name, /…
