It is truly tragic how fate turned out in ‘Romeo and Juliet’. Mercutio, Tybalt, Romeo, Juliet and Lady Montague all died due to this conflict that was an “ancient grudge”. Capulet expresses how they were all “poor sacrifices of [their] enmity”. Capulet and Montague are seen making up as Capulet asks for “[his] hand” and Montague says he will “raise her statue in pure gold”. Shakespeare shows the audience how all of their conflicts are now seen so meaningless and definitely shouldn’t have been the cause of death for several lives and how the families now have reconciled. However, in ‘The Outsiders’ the Socs and Greasers do not reconcile from the death of their gang members, although Johnny does express how they’re rivalry is “useless” and how “fighting ain’t no good”. The death of them does make Ponyboy question why they fight in the first place though, which makes the audience believe that these conflicts have caused a positive impact on Ponyboy.
