I have had a number of romantic relationships, including a marriage that lasted twelve years and one I have been in now for about six months. The relationship I am in currently is extremely healthy as our communication is outstanding, we have similar values, including parenting, politics, and barometers for happiness. Additionally, we enjoy similar activities and support our individual interests, including work and career goals. Interests we share are; we enjoy working out and being active, including enjoying long walks, hikes, and working out at the gym. We also enjoy new foods, wine tasting, and traveling. She has been scuba diving for a few years and I will be getting certified to dive this January. We both had a dog and a cat when we met so now our house is a bit of a zoo, but we love our pets. In addition, I have a twelve year old son that she enjoys being around and is starting to take an active role in raising him, which is very important as I have him 85% of the time. Finally, we are both very physically affectionate, have similar sex drives, and we communicate about sex as much as anything, which is very refreshing, and quite different …show more content…
We had a very different upbringing which led to very different values, parenting styles, priorities, and communication styles. She struggled to express herself calmly when faced with emotional challenges, refused to discuss sexual wants / needs, and would rarely start conversations to address any issue until she was upset, which did not lead to calm level headed conversations. In addition, we had very few mutual interests, she was not as active as I am and I did not enjoy the same things she did.
