The thematic comparison of several short films of the romance genre present a stylistic interpretation of romantic relationships at various stages in the relationship spectrum. Three specific short films show both the evolution and deterioration of relationships and romantic love within genres like science fiction, drama, and comedy. All three of the shorts in this essay provoke emotion on different levels but have a similar message. The short films WORLD OF TOMORROW, INERTIAL LOVE, and GEORGE LUCAS IN LOVE all show critical depictions of love and relationships throughout a spectrum of cinematic genres. However, the overall message in all three films seems to be that nothing lasts forever. Using theme, narration, time and other cinematic devices, the directors of these three short films were able to show love on a broader spectrum.

There is a very strong message that can be perceived from the film in the direct depiction of a relationship that has run out of gas, literally. Our protagonist crashes through the car window (current relationship) scraping across the street (discovering self through heartache) in an inertial force that seems never-ending. While the film may not depict the message or feelings of love and the romantic bond that people find in a depiction of cliché relationships in other films.
