Roman Wall

If the Romans had left their city in 386 BCE, their fate might have come to an abrupt end. After the Gauls destroyed their city, the Romans were given building materials that were provided at public expense, that every citizen should rebuild his home, as long as he accomplished his home in under a year. It was often said that Rome’s ramshackle layout and its chaotic streets in the city were direct result of a rushed reconstruction. So also appears that the Romans, as part of this rebuild, now finally decided to build a sturdy city wall. So like a good leader, he did what was best for his people and had them live in Veii. Camillus wanted to stay; he did not want to leave their Gods. “ Why should Romans abandon their gods and become exiles from their true home?” (Dutton, 113). One of the reasons they went back to Rome to confront the Gauls was because they ran out of food in Veii. If the Romans had stayed in Veii they would have died of hunger. He had to go back and face the Gauls. Rome did not conquer the Gauls with war; they sent them off with 1000 pounds of gold. Camillus knew that if the Romans had stayed put in Veii and it was destroyed, they would end up back where they were.
I firmly believe that if the Romans did not leave Rome after the Gauls attacked; the Gauls would have executed all of the Romans. Rome and the majority of everything it is known for could have never existed. If the Gauls killed the Romans, Rome’s past and even present day history would have changed drastically. Quite possibly, some of our science and architecture would not have been or invented later on. There would have been no Julius Caesar, and our laws today might be altered. Let this sink in, quite possibly actions and events from 386 BCE could have altered history today in 2017. I really think that could be a life lesson, that every action you do is impacting history each

To analyze history with an “events and chance” perspective means recognizing the causes of different historical events, the effects of each event, and the possible alternative effects that might have existed if the events occurred differently, or not at all. For example, historians might use an “events and chance” perspective to predict what would have happened if Odoacer, an Ostrogothic soldier would not have sent all imperial regalia from Rome to Constantinople. On the other hand, historians may analyze history through a “structural change” lens, where their attention is focused on intentional, purposeful, and long-term changes rather than incidental events. A “structural change” perspective is more likely to examine alterations in societal fundamentals, such as changes in constitutions, social classes, or political…
