One of the many issues that caused the falling of the republic was corruption in the government. Rome used to be democracy, Rome put power into the hands of many few (beard,2011). The quick growth in the land they took the Roman Empire led to the having to defend the territories of Rome. The people of the taken lands, hated the Romans. Taxes on the non-Romans were high and always were getting higher. Rebellions happened often because of this.
Romans had stopped working, that hurt the roman economy. Cheap slave labor resulted in the romans to stop working and get lazy. They became dependent on money from the roman govermnet . The Romans attempted a policy of unrestricted trade but this led to the people being unable to compete with trade. The government had to support the people who used to work. This lead to many of Roman people just to live on the government money and giving up their normal way life for a easy life without working. The roman economy prices where going up. Once the Romans stopped taking over new lands, the gold into the Roman economy decreased. But much gold was being spent by the romans to pay for items. This meant that there was less gold to use in money. As the amount of money used in coins decreased, the coins became less valuable. To make up for this loss in value, people raised the prices on the goods they sold. Many people stopped using money and began to trade to get what they needed and wanted.
