Fashion is different all over the world, but have you ever wondered what fashion was like thousands of years ago? Ancient Rome’s clothing and hairstyles have changed drastically over the years. The hairstyles have changed but still resemble the hairstyles from many years ago. The men used to dress very similar to women but that is different now. Lastly, the women's fashion is more revealing and tight than before. Things were very strict in ancient rome many years ago. Lets dig a little deeper into this topic. In ancient rome hairstyles could be very simple, or very intricate. Women in ancient rome almost always had some kind of design in their hair. Young girls wore their long hair in simple buns at the base of the neck or wore their hair high up on their head in a top knot. Simple hairstyles for married and older women changed during the reign of the Emperor Augustus when a variety of different hairstyles came into fashion. The wealthier a woman was, the more accessories she would wear in her hair. Also, wealthy women tended to have much more elaborate hairstyles. Now we still braid our hair in various ways. Also, women still wear accessories in their hair quite often, but the accessories have become more simple. Also, whether you are wealthy or poor does not reflect how you wear your hair. Men and women in ancient rome dressed very similarly. Roman men mainly wore two garments, the tunica and the toga. The tunica was a short woolen under garment with short sleeves. The toga was a Roman garment that only actual citizens were allowed to wear. Its purpose was to indicate peaceful endeavors, as opposed to the sagum cloak, worn during times of war.
