Rome was one of the greatest empires ever to exist, but even the Roman Empire could not live for ever. There were four main problems that led to the fall of Rome. These next paragraphs will tell you more about Political problems, economic problems, disastrous diseases, and many foreign invaders.
There were many political problems in Rome right before the fall of the Western Roman Empire. First off the position of an emperor was Inherited, so several of the emperors were unfit, greedy, cruel rulers. The legions paid off the Praetorian Guard to assassinate the emperor many times. Since they had no way of replacing the emperor it was basically a free for all. Legions fought legions and the legion who won got to put their general on the throne. Civil wars broke out in Rome, citizens revolted against corrupt government and poor living conditions. With political problems comes economic problems, and Rome had plenty of those too. With the political problems came many Roman economic problems. In order to pay the salaries of demanding legions, the taxes were raised. The people of Rome began to have a greater desire for exotic goods. More goods were imported from other …show more content…
One of the largest causes of death was from the lead pipes. Lead pipes were used in the aqueducts and carried water from the mountains to the cities. Most of the Romans ate with pewter utensils and dishware, this, along with the lead pipes caused many cases of lead poisoning. Evidence from recent DNA testing showed that the Romans had many diseases Including Malaria and the Bubonic Plague. The diseases were spread by horrible communal bathrooms and bathing systems. In 262 CE thousands of people each day died because of these diseases. Attila the Hun from the Mongolian Empire retreated an attack on Rome because word of malaria spread across
