Rome was a massive empire. When the Empire finally started to decline, it was a big upset to the people living there and around it. There were many causes to the fall of the Roman Empire. I believe that the Roman Empire became so large the borders became difficult to control, the constant competing of the Roman generals for power, and the fact that Christianity lead to people not fighting in battle, which lead to Rome having to rely on foreign soldiers, this all lead to the fall of the Empire.

“The Severan Dynasty ruled until 235. Alexander Severus´ death triggered a succession struggle which lasted fifty years. Competing generals, politicians, and barbarian kings all vied to rule the empire.” (Doc 4)
Third, Christianity taught people not to fight in the battles which lead to Rome not having enough people in the army to fight. “Christianity also taught people pacifism (not to fight) which discouraged Romans from enlisting in the army…” (Doc 7)
Finally, since Christianity lead to people not enlisting in the army, Rome had to rely on foreign soldiers. The soldiers often switched sides during the battles. “Rome became reliant on hired foreign soldiers to bolster their military, especially Germanics. The Romans lifestyle in raising and producing children did not lead to the fall of the Roman Empire. “Romans’ luxurious lifestyle and their concomitant disinterest in producing and raising children…” (Doc 1) Even though some Roman children didn’t live past the age of 10, most children were raised well enough to start their own families.
