In the cycles of the art world, artistic styles progress over time and new innovative techniques embody an era, but the past periods never truly fade from the mind of the artist, hence periods like the Renaissance, a rebirth of an older era of art. The statue looks extremely archaic, like a kouros, but some more advanced stylistic evidence on the statue contradict the earlier claim regarding an archaic date and places it in a later Hellenistic one.…

The separate horse piece is lively yet controlled by Aurelius, which is appropriate for a philosophical based king. Augustus was concerned with dynastic and propagandist views. The node to the cupid and the shame of the Parthians depicted on his breastplate clearly infer to his glorified lineage. Contrarily, the statue of Aurelius is humble in nature and focuses on Aurelius’s personal characteristics rather than his pedigree. The adlocutio, or the right outstretched arm referring to an address, is a commonality in both the Prima Porta and Aurelius statue.…

Here she is standing five feet tall, with gentle feminine curls cascading down her narrow face and onto her shoulders; so perfectly symmetric it radiates beauty. The hard marble helps to emphasize the strong noble composure that illuminates in her expression yet the slightly off white color further expresses the contrast between purity and strength. The pursed lips, and slightly lifted chin help to express that her eyes are looking across the room and that she is looking down on the passersby thus depicting her true nature as a goddess overlooking everyone from above. The patrons walking through the museum can catch her stare from across the gallery in a simple glance despite her eyes being so marvelously simple as compared to the rest of the statue.…

The cannon was used as an ideal system of different lengths and ratios of the human body to show what the ideal man looked like in Greek culture. Roman Empire is one of the most interesting empires in world history; a lot of legacies were left by many Roman Emperors and one of them is Octavian Caesar or Augustus Caesar—the first Emperor of Rome. To gain the power of the most powerful man in Rome at that time, Octavian had been through a lot. He was Julius Caesar’s grand-nephew and was the one that Julius Caesar appointed to be his true heir. When seeing that Julius Caesar slowly turned himself to an absolute ruler, the Senators united and murdered him in 44 B.C.E.. However, the Senators’ purpose of returning Rome back to a Republic was ruined when “eighteen-year-old Octavian (63 B.C.E.-14 C.E), joined with two of Caesar’s followers, Marc Antony and Lepidus, in the Second Triumvirate”…

The Equestrian portrait of Charles the Bald is a statue made from gold and black bronze that is small in size from the medieval period, particularly in the 9th century. The Equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius is also an ancient statue made of bronze. The two statues compare significantly and depict different personalities of the two rulers (Frassetto, 740). First and foremost, they differ in size such that the portrait of Charles the Bald is approximately 24 centimeters in height while the other is about 4.24 meters tall.
