Ancient Roman Architecture
Ancient Roman architecture covers the time period from the creation of the Roman Republic in 509 BC to about the 4th Century AD. The Roman architectural styles came from many other styles including many from the Etruscans and the Greeks. Roman architecture developed during the Roman Republic and became even greater during the Roman Empire. However, the Roman did not achieve significant architectural structures until the beginning of the Imperial period after combining Greek and Etruscan styles. They also made many important developments in housing that we still use today in our homes, including public and private baths, under-floor heating, and piped hot and cold water. Many of the Roman styles and developments in architecture are still used today, such as columns, arches, and domes.

They had to make a water-tight seal so that no water would escape. The aqueducts had a slight slant so that gravity would carry the water through to the city. In order to save supplies, the Romans would put arches throughout the aqueducts so space that would be filled with bricks and concrete or other supplies, there would be nothing. The arches still held up the aqueduct while not using unneeded material. This helped to save material for future projects that it would be needed for. It also made them look better
Circuses were big open areas used for public entertainment and events. They would have a race track and seats for the spectators. The events held there would be a variety of chariot races and horse races. Performance to commemorate important events of the empire were also held there. One of the most famous circuses in Ancient Rome was Circus Maximus, which was built in the Old Kingdom Era. Along with amphitheaters, circuses were one of the main entertainment sites of that time. We still use circuses today in NASCAR and race tracks, which are like the modern
