Romantic comedies, also known as “Rom Coms”, depict love stories in light, humorous ways. The genre originates from the 1500s, with works by William Shakespeare such as A Midsummer Night’s Dream. While this play firstly spins laughter into the drama of mixed up lovers, it wasn’t until after World War II when the genre took its full form. When Harry Met Sally became one of the first Romantic Comedies to bring sex into a joking light for the public to watch and discuss. Previously, romance, love, and sex was a serious matter, kept between the couple. However, society now enjoys Romantic Comedies full of sex, confusing emotions, and comical displays of affection and embarrassment. Movies such as Friends With Benefits focus on the wacky humiliations
