Roller Coasters-Personal Narrative

I could not withhold my excitement as our car pulled up to the huge amusement park I was about to enter. I could see several roller coasters rushing through the air, their tracks gleaming in the sunlight and looking huge against the blue sky. I was elated to be going to Europa Park for the first time with my friends in the band I was a part of. When we finally entered the park I was very excited to be in a group with one of my friends, Naomi, as we both had never been. As sixth graders we could not fathom how someone could go on the two largest roller coasters, Silver Star and Blue Fire, without being scared out of their minds. Nonetheless, we were determined to try them out and hopefully make it through without dying. Naomi had never been …show more content…
My knees shaked and my palms felt like a soaked sponge. Everyone around me seemed composed and calm. I tried my best not to reveal my fear, as I folded my hands and faked a smile. We were on our way to Europa Park, europe's biggest amusement park. I was excited to go, but I had never been on a roller coaster and I was frightened of getting dizzy or not enjoying the rides. However, I reassured myself by thinking that most people would not want to ride the mega-coasters. Thus, I would not have to worry about the steep falls on Silver Star and the twisty turns of Blue Fire. The van existed the roundabout, directly into the front entrance of the park. The loud screams, tall coasters, and big signs were louder, taller, and bigger than I ever imagined. I was terrified. The doors opened and we disappeared amongst the crowd; I was sure not to lose grip of my friend Phoebe’s arm as our group pushed its way through the …show more content…
This was the roller coaster that had several corkscrews and upside down turns as the seats were hanging from the track as opposed to the regular cars on top of the track. For some reason, the concept of hanging in your seat, no matter how safe it supposedly was, scared me out of my mind. Still, I was not going to be a wimp and stay behind while my friends went on one of the two big park highlights without me, or so I thought. When we had waited for what felt like forever, we made it to the front of the line and prepared ourselves to board the coaster. For some reason, I had psyched myself up so much that by that point in time there was no way I was going to get on that ride unless someone forced me. I sadly watched my friends board the ride as I waited behind for them, but felt very pleased with my decision to not risk my

A few years ago, on a class trip, my friends had asked me to ride at least one roller coaster. It was not a large roller coaster, but it made me queasy just looking at it. I was confident that I would be able to go on and enjoy the experience. My confidence quickly evaporated when we began climbing up the roller coaster’s first hill. The ride dropped, and I was screaming so loudly that I could only hear myself.…

I remember the gut wrenching feeling in my stomach as my best friend and I approached the tallest and fastest roller coaster at Hershey Park, called SkyRush. I am not sure why I agreed to go on this roller coaster, considering most of the time at amusement parks I entertain myself with food, and miniature rides that stay level to the ground. Unlike me, my friend liked the rush and heart dropping feeling of being at the apex of a roller coaster and then dropping down at maximum speed. Personally, I preferred the ground, where I remained in full control of my own safety. Yet that afternoon I found myself standing in line for SkyRush.…

Well I had gone to Six Flags and when I had got there I was so anxious to get on every ride in Six Flags but then I had heard a person on the Goliath scream ”stop the ride” it was so funny and scary at the same time. Then I saw that almost every ride had so many twists and turns and even circles that go round and round. Last year I had gone on a roller coaster which was the Mind Bender and it wasn’t so scary. The Mind Bender had so many circles that go round and round.…

They were never my thing, I always feel like butterflies in my stomach and my hands get shaky and sweaty. As my friends knocked on the door and walked into my house.…

Cedar Point, the Roller Coaster Capital of the world, certainly lives up to its title. Scattered throughout the park are some of the most intense roller coasters you’ll ever hear of. I was fortunate enough to have experienced the phenomenon of riding atop the Top Thrill Dragster over summer vacation, which lasted only 20 seconds of real time, but will forever be embedded within my long-lasting memory. The fiery orange sun began to submerge below the line of the horizon, far out across the calm, murky waters of Lake Erie.…

I got anxious as I reached the top, until the worked yelled “pull the cord.” Those three words is all it took to relieve me of everything, all the stress, anxiety and anything else that had bothered me just seemed to go away as I was flying through the sky. Once the ride was over I looked was so glad that I hadn’t chickened out. It was such a great experience that was so much more than just riding a dumb ride at Six Flags. It showed me that whatever goal I set for myself in life, big or small, I would accomplish it.…

In just a few seconds they would be off, gone to travel over the track in a bright blur. The screams enclosed the car with the force of adrenaline as it appeared and disappeared in a flash. I heard the happy and terrified screams of the people on the coaster and the booming voice of the ones controlling it while strolling around Paradise Pier in Disneyland with my family. At this point, I hadn't been on the roller coaster yet. I preferred to keep myself on the ground and not on the coaster going up side down into crazy drops.…

We finally reached peak height, and were about to descend the hill when my life flashed before my eyes. I grabbed Mike’s hand and squeezed my eyes shut as if my life depended on it. The day was gloomy and cloudy with a chance of lightning on the way. Woke up, feeling nauseous and a bit scared thinking about the huge rides I was to encounter. I could still remember all of the videos I watched the day before and they weren’t making my situation any better. One video showed a slingshot ride preparing to launch two kids and the cable snaps, hitting the floor with enough force to break cement. When I watched those videos I felt as if that would happen to me, my brother and my friends.…

It was a luminous and beautiful day in Hot Springs, Arkansas at Magic Springs, and all of my best friends were with me. I knew that my friends were going to want to ride a roller coaster, but I was terrified of them. Roller coasters had been my number one fear until that day, but I overcame that fear that day. On a tropical and humid day the first roller coaster that my friends and I rode was not as atrocious as I thought it would be, consequently, I had decided to ride it. I had overcame my fear of riding a brusque roller coaster, but now it was just going to become more arduous for me.…

After the attendants strapped everyone in, they did their whole spiel on how we were going to have a great time, but the words muddled in my mind as I was more focused on breathing. The car moved onward and screeched at us as if in warning. Then suddenly the car stopped, I’m pretty sure just to spite us.…

This source discusses the history of roller coasters, the progression of them through the years as well as analyzes the aspects that come along with the rides. One specific aspect are the people that get in line to ride these coasters. The authors argue that these people can be grouped into 3 categories: people that love roller coasters, people that like them and then people that cannot stomach them. The authors go on to say that roller coasters have the capability to provide the riders with “an experience that nature never intended humans to have.” This really explains what roller coaster’s jobs are besides amusement— to thrill.…
