Roller Coaster Height Lab

Over the course of the roller coaster height lab My group and I had to answer the question “ does the height of the ramp affect the speed of the marble”. We answered that yes the height of the ramp will make the speed of the marble increase. Our hypothesis was wrong, but, My group and I have discovered that the height of the ramp will not affect the speed of the marble. We also Discovered something new which was that the speed increased and decreased abnormally as we went along in the lab. Over the course of the lab my classmates and I have discovered that the speed increased and decreased as the heights got shorter. According to Our data table on test 1, 3, and 5 the speeds are 71.42, 109.58, and 78.65 these numbers are obviously not in chronological …show more content…
The lower the marble started on the track meant that it had less of a slope to increase its speed, the less the slope the less speed. This also supports my claim because, the weight and mass of the marble could have also taken a toll on the abnormal speed of the marble clearing the track. This is because the lightweight foam track can only hold so much weight and mass, Also the track might have dipped because the mass of the marble coming down at that speed caused the track to give out on its structure and beyond. This shows that since the track dipped it caused the marble to have to go over a hill which took up more time instead of just a straight shot. This experiment is a very repeatable experiment because in class for another roller coaster lab with a different objective and It shouldn't be that hard to come up with another unique question for this lab either. In the future labs like this could be very useful for certain roller coaster parks when they want to make a new or improve a roller coaster they can create a huge slope with a lot of height, which gives the cart the extra speed of gravity besides the torque of the engine and you never know they might have the world's fastest roller coaster on their

-4.9t^2, there is no variable for velocity. The horizontal does affect the range because to calculate the range with the equation of x= Vxt, the variable for velocity is present. The lab showed that the horizontal and vertical motion are completely independent from looking at the velocities of both. The horizontal velocity never changed; it was constant and cannot be changed by the height, whereas the vertical velocity can be. Depending on the height the velocity is changing constantly because of the hang-time.…

Once you are down the mountain, you are lifted towards a loop. In this loop, you are experiencing a centripetal force, or the force an object moving along a circular path to move toward the center of the path. You experience a large g-force in this loop due to your position upside down. When nearing the end of the loop, you experience projectile motion, as a result of being shot from the top of the loop throughout the rest of the roller coaster. You travel beyond the loop during this roller coaster and swirl around an over-sized snowman.…

The results highlighted a correlation, but we are not quite sure if the results yielded a causation. The arithmetic mean for the control group is 29.048. This signifies that in 2 minutes, the average subject tested scored 29 out of a total 36 or an 80.68% percent accuracy. On the other hand, the average for the our experiment group, the subjects give gatorade, is 30.524 or an 84.78 percent accuracy. The results slightly improved for the experiment, but it is highly unlikely that this is due to the actual gatorade consumption.…

    Roller Coasters History

Its funny today with all of the fast roller coasters but the first roller coaster in the United States only went 6 miles per hour. These days roller coasters come in all different shapes and sizes and the fastest roller coaster goes 149 miles per hour, which is a big difference from the beginning of roller coasters when riders would sit on books of wood and ice with straw stuffed inside of it, then they would get a little push and slide down. When Paris wanted in on all the fun they realized they didn't have the cold winter climate that the Russians had so they added a track to the ride and then they added wheels onto their sleds, effectively creating the modern roller coaster in 1817. Today roller coasters are built with wheeled cars that are all linked together and that move along in a pair with the structure of is supported by either wood or steel. The cars are linked by a chain that carries the cars up a steep incline.…

The lab that was conducted in class throughout this whole week was basically to find one suitable objective and that was to determine the friction of four surfaces. It consisted of multiple trials of pulling on a block that was measured at .118 kg, for each specific trial that was conducted. For the block, weights were added on top to determine the friction and how it was affected towards the tension and feel of multiple surfaces that the lab was primarily trying to accomplish. The multiple surfaces were cardboard, sandpaper, rubber and cork. My hypothesis experimented that the block of wood had many factors that determine the friction of the four surfaces would be the material, normal force and that static friction is way greater than kinetic…

How will acid rain affect the growth of seed development of Brassica rapa (mustard plant)? If we pour acid rain on a plant then it won’t grow and there will be the same amount of seeds because the acid poisons the plant and kills it. Based off of the results I recieved after doing the experiment, my hypothesis rejects the data and is the complete opposite. I made this hypothesis based off of all the harsh effects that acid has on things, but in this case I was proved wrong. During this experiment we had record the heights each day to track to rate they were growing at.…
