Question 1 (Essay)
The title "Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry" is a short explanation of how the Logan family and Mr. Morrison are trying to fight against injustice and against the whites’ treatment to the blacks. The word “thunder” in the title resembles the hate and abuse that the blacks get from the whites. “Hear my cry” is a call to God to hear the Logans cries and pains. In chapter three the family faced a very painful struggle from the whites’ bus driver. Thunder, as stated in the title, and rain turned their drive ways into muddy and slicky ground. That was not the big issues, the biggest issue was that the whites’ bus kept splashing them with mud as it drove by them while going to school. He made bad decisions every time, and all his problems came from his bad choices. Because of the racist system and because of his poor family he is willing to be with anyone as long as he was found accepted by someone. Also, when they robed the Mercantile there was no one to blame, but of course, him, which lead him to go to jail. It was until later that he understood that they are just using him and leaving him for sometimes that they will need someone to put their troubles on, but it was too late after he went to jail for something he never did. The Logans family had sympathy for T.J because he was put in jail and because he found out that the Simms were using him and fooling him all that time. Her teacher told her and the class that they will have books to use this year. They were excited and happy to see them, but the books were found to be very old and dirty; used by the whites and now given to them instead of throwing them away. They are ten years old, worn, and are given to the “nigra” students (Cassie 25). Cassie and Little Man were very frustrated and angry when they understood that those books were just given to them after the whites have used them and made them so dirty and unacceptable to use. Then they refused the books and for that they were whipped. Later, she tried to cover the books with white papers so that they don’t show that they have been used by the whites and then given to the
