Mrs. Logan was also fired which put the Logins land at risk. In addition, when Mr. Logan, Mr. Morison, and Stacey where coming back from Vicksburg the Wallaces attacked them and broke Mr. Logan’s leg . Mr. Morrison retaliated by breaking Thurston Wallace's back along with Kaleb Wallace's arm. Mr. Logan had a broken leg, as a result he could not work on the railroad which furthermore put their land at risk. Another act of courage from Mr. Logan was when he was forced to set fire to his crops, burning a quarter of their cotton. This again increased the risk of the Login’s land being lost to Mr. Granger.
The Wallaces did not get arrested since they were in the South where blacks were treated less than human. Mr. Logan did not back down and it took perseverance to continue while being threatened by the most powerful white man in the county. All of this was able to happen because of racism and the fact that blacks being killed by a white person was against the law except that it was ignored.
