They are recognized as a symbol of quality that demonstrates an organization’s level of commitment when it comes to meeting a particular set of performance standards. Their vision is that people will consistently receive health care that is of the highest quality and best value that is also the safest. They have a heavy impact on nursing practices in the workplace as they are a resource for standards of care, National Patient Safety Goals, and education. Accreditation standards include requiring organizations to promote professional behavior, establish codes of conduct, and ensure adequate staffing. Their role in nursing education is that they provide the most up-to-date, accurate information in regards to topics like Universal Protocol and “Do Not Use” List of Abbreviations, amongst others. They also have a Topic Library on their website that furnishes links to further education on items such as Infection Control and Disease Specific Care. They are supportive of nursing research and have a variety of webinars to view and study articles to read that are available through their Topic Library.
