In the respect of a child born, parents are known within the community and family member as “the parents of” said name of the child. This could not be said about individuals and families within of cultures. Within the European American cultures there is a different attitude and belief facing how people visualize what is respectful and honoring to growing older. This concept have changed over decades of social industrialization and modernization.
Unlike Arab Americans tradition and family are the face of the elderly, within the European American culture the elderly is no long held as influencers, power, and respect which carried heavily a long time ago. Although changes have occurred quickly, not all change are good. The younger generations benefit greatly from the change but they are living a shorter life span. Less enthused to be strive for new heights, while presenting themselves as the chosen and privilege generation. Northern, Southern, Western, and Eastern European Americans have their own distinctive culture, but in all they have the same American values and expectation for their children. Parents, families, and communities must transition as society social trends, media, pop culture, and the economy have put a large dent in family’s relationship and status. Families are trying to fine the balance between family structure and reality. The elderly are no longer respected and honored for their longevity and experience; although they are out living the younger generations. The reality in most cases, children are growing up at rapid pace. Families’ expectation and attitude toward the younger generation is somewhat cloudy and unpredictable. Challenges with combined American culture, such as Arab and European American, the younger generations are dealing with their traditions and values that were given by their ancestors versus the freedom that is bestowed upon them through society
