Puritan Children Role
The Puritan children daily life is not the same a typical child in the United States has recess and playground time. The Puritan children were not having the fun that children should have during their childhood. The Puritan adults were strict and showed no attention to the puritan children. The daily life of the children were basically like the daily life of the puritan adults. The lives or the childhoods of the Puritans were very predictable. The Puritans had a different life expectancy and children had different birth rate than southern colonies. The birth rate of the children were nearly two times more than the rate in other states. The puritan children were very disciplined and showed not many signs of fear. The fathers of the puritan children were really the only ones who distributed the discipline. For example ,”Fathers were the ones in a family that gave out the discipline to the children “(Ridgely 1). The fathers played a big role in the shaping of the Puritan children and they daily life. The puritan children were born ignorant and really needed the strict discipline. For instance , “ Puritan parents believed that their children were born ignorant and in need of strict guidance” (Stannard 1). The puritan children were disciplined at very young ages to be good in the future. This statement explains, “ They also believed that shaping their child at a young age was very important”(Ridgely 1).This shows the children back then were disciplined and taught manners at a young age. The maturity level changes by person but when a child is ready to live without an adult that is when they are on their own. For example , “as soon as a child can live without the constant solicitude of his mother, his nanny or his cradle-rocker, he belonged to the city”(Stannard 128). Puritan children was accepted into adulthood soon as they showed any signs of them being able to live life without no parenting. The Puritan society had many expectations for the children of the generation. The schools taught things about subjects puritan children lack knowledge in during that time. The socialization history of the youth was something that was needed to be taught and explained to the Puritan children. For instance , “The lack of Historical attention paid to the young children is unfortunate because efforts on behalf of the young child by their families, churches, and schools can provide us with useful insights not only about the child but also about the dynamics of these institutions in the socialization of the young”(Moran
