The society in Anthem is very controlled. Equality one of the main characters in the book and is smart and different from others. In the book Equality says,”It was not that the learning was too hard for us. It was that the learning was too easy.” (pg;4) In this world the council picks out everyone's jobs and they aren’t aloud to even think of what they wish to do. In the text it says,”Dare not choose in our minds the work you would like you would like to do when you leave the Home of the Students. You shall do what the Council of Vocations shall prescribe for you.” (pg;4) He wishes he was one of the scholars so he could have a job involved with science. Equality says,” We wished to be sent to the Home of the Scholars when our time would come.”(pg;5)
