Throughout history, gender and race have restricted the actions of many. In the early 1900’s racial discrimination was not illegal, therefore racism was very unrestrained during that time period. In the novel by John Steinbeck Of Mice and Men, the real life situation of racial discrimination was being portrayed throughout the novel. Both gender and race played a big part in it. It is set around the same time period, there was a lot of sexism and racism towards people, if you weren’t a certain gender or certain skin color you would have literal restrictions on your own freedom. You weren’t allowed to do certain things, you weren’t allowed to own certain things, you weren’t even allowed to talk to certain people.
