During the five act tragedy Macbeth by William Shakespeare, one character seems to withhold a lot of the responsibility for the tragedies brought in the drama. Macbeth, the character that was once a loyal, brave, and responsible thane develops into a mentally disturbed mess that is crowned king. This dynamic character with demonic thoughts places himself in a complicated position due to liberal, and chaotic actions that him and partially his wife contribute to. Due to such actions, never-ending mayhem lay upon the Macbeths. However, Macbeth is solely responsible for almost all of the tragedies due to his paranoia. Due to such a strong belief in the prophecy and not being in fate, Macbeth now plans the death of his best friend and best friend’s son, Banquo and Fleance. Macbeth states how “to be thus is nothing, but to be safely is thus,” which shows how paranoid Macbeth has become since he is now worried of his best friend’s blood killing him for power. At the end of his soliloquy, Macbeth challenges fate instead of letting it play out, showing how much Macbeth has changed. Due to increased paranoia, Macbeth goes through with such a devious plan as well as hiring murders that are peasants to the job for him out of manhood and respect for him. Again, not the smartest move Macbeth decided on as karma comes back at his dinner party. Macbeth’s dinner party went just fine until Macbeth visualizes Banquo’s ghost like he visualized the floating daggers in an earlier scene. Such paranoia due to such a gruesome murder leads to chaos of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth sending the guests home. Lady Macbeth has no idea of the killing of Banquo until Macbeth states “it will have blood, they say; blood will have blood.” This shows how their relationship is drifting apart since these two were so close, and now their not as much since Lady Macbeth had no idea about the plan about killing Banquo. Macbeth explains how “[he] is in blood stepped in so far that, should [he] wade no more, returning were as tedious as go o’ver;” implying that it is too late to turn back to being loyal, as he had committed so much crime already.
