The focus of this assignment is on a problem that exists in a health care organization and the chosen topic is the lack of quality leadership in today’s military health care organizations. The healthcare industry has experienced comprehensive changes within the last few decades and even more so in the last few years. These groups extend from the appointment clerk booking the schedule, to the physician extender taking a history, to the laboratory personnel processing samples. Each person should perform their specific duty independently, however without the proper guidance; individuals may not be executing at the desired level. Evidence of disengaged leadership is often reflected in a low overall incentive to participate and increased workload for those that are actively engaged. Managers need to monitor their personnel, ensure that everyone is doing their part and provide appropriate feedback. The major difference between military and civilian facilities is that the government is not required to turn a profit in order to keep operating. The financial factor along with the circumstance that military have limited options for care can lead to a lack of engagement on the part of upper administration. In this situation, problems in the system can be ignored or hidden for a time until a closer look is taken. Recent reviews of the military health system have shown that although this is not the case in all facilities, there are several areas with room for improvement (Pellerin, 2014).
Conclusion
Successful healthcare organizations focus on maintaining a leadership approach to which employees respond. Target individuals are developed to their full potential and they in turn create successful outcomes. Many civilian organizations have implemented programs designed to promote from within ensuring the future success of their personnel and to create an environment where leadership is valued as a resource. If the military health care system follows suit and takes the concept further to encompass the unique challenges of the occupation, success can be achieved there as
