Role Of Jealousy In All Summer In A Day By Ray Bradbury

Improved Essays
Jealousy plays a big role in the story All Summer in a Day by Ray Bradbury. It illustrates that jealousy can get the best of anyone and lead them to do the wrong to someone blindly. The kids were very excited to know that the sun would be coming soon since the rain had finally stopped. Margot did not seem too stoked about it since she had seen it plenty times before. And the kids knew this. The children were very jealous of Margot because she used to be able to see the sun often while they only see it every seven years. Their jealousy led them to lock Margot in the closet while they all got to go outside and play in the sun. All of the children didn't have any control over what she sees and locking her in the closet wouldn't fix any problem.

Do you think one must be able to excel in their academics or avoid hurting others feelings in the form of jealousy to keep everyone equal? In a world that is a America that is a dystopia having restrictions on knowledge and embracing violence where reading books is strictly prohibited. The world is also torn into war, but a few start to question their society. This becomes clear when some individuals previously loyal to the way of life understand the greater picture of what they aren’t allowed to do,the lack empathy, and violence that occurs throughout this world.…

Unlike Margot, they had never gotten the opportunity to see the sun. Hearing her regularly talk about it and even write poems--it brought them despair. They thought that the only way to get even and feel what Margot had felt would be to take that sun away from her...and enjoy it all for themselves. One can argue that the children just didn’t know better, and that is why they behaved like this, but that is in fact a misinterpreted assumption. This is because after they had seen the sun, they were no longer jealous, therefore, they had stopped acting boorish.…

Once you experience something of such great significance, it is hard to let that go and move on. This universal theme can be seen in both the song “Want You Back” by 5 Seconds of Summer, and the short story “All Summer in a Day” by Ray Bradbury. In “Want You Back” the band sings about a girl whom they have left and will always want back. In “All Summer in a Day” the author tells a story about students on Venus, who are in the absence of the sun, and are grieving the loss of it too. In both of these selections, the band and the author use imagery and repetition to convey the theme.…

It rains every day there and no one has seen the sun in a long time, except for a small girl named Margot who is bullied for remembering the sun when the other children don’t. Margot was “a very frail girl who looked as if she had been lost in the rain for years and the rain had washed out the blue from her eyes and the red from her mouth and the yellow from her hair. She was an old photograph dusted from an album, whitened away, and if she spoke at all her voice would be a ghost.” This confirms what Margot looks like. The story hints that something happened to Margot that caused her to be this way.…

In this story many of the children on Venus are jealous of Margot’s opportunities and previous life on earth. When children are jealous, they turn against Margot. One example is when she is reading the poem, instead of listening to Margot the students shut her down without even listening. Just because students are jealous it does not mean that they can bully Margot. While this is important theme it is easily seen that if it weren’t for Margot not thinking about what she said or did that this wouldn’t have happened, so overall the important point is that it is needed for everyone to take a minute an think about the results in the end from what they…
