The Council shaped Equality’s identity many ways. One way is Equality expects the job of a scholar. Because Scholars is whose task is to gain knowledge and learn but the council assigns Equality a job that he doesn’t like. When he learns that he will be a street sweeper, he thinks that he is being punished and thats why he didn’t get the job he was hoping for. So he goes his own way, and this probably taught him to be more independent.
while doing the job he was assigned he finds a secret tunnel and everyday he goes there doing experiments and research.
Another character that shaped Equality’s identity is the Saint of the Pyre. Though this character only appears in a flashback and not the present time action he still influenced Equality. He is a man that Equality when young witnesses being burned at stake for speaking the unspeakable word. When he was being burned at stake The saint of the Pyre’s eyes look over the crowd and into Equality’s eyes and he stares at him with no pain or fear but with a serious look almost trying to communicate with Equality. After burned and nothing left, Equality is left with an agonizing question of what the Unmentionable word is. Leaving Equality with determination to discover what its meaning and why the Saint is burned at the pyre for
