Human Rights Monitor is an innovative research-based consultancy and advocacy organization. Our focus is on human rights violations and to generate a peaceful discourse in society. Protection and promotion of human rights are among the noteworthy policy objectives of Human rights Monitor. Human rights monitor is a non-profit organization with a countrywide outreach. It aims at using media as an ally for change. Since its inception in 2010, it has worked on governance, rule of law, media communication skills, youth development, strengthening civil society and democratic development.

The project aims to identify the prevailing awareness level within the print media, related to the subject of torture, with reference to Criminal justice System while engaging them as an ally towards its eradication. It will also observe the legal and political understanding of the subject, in the journalist community. The project will further engage the print media in a structured set of activities, aimed at strengthening the capacity of the media, to help eradicate the practice of torture from the state structures, its endorsement in political culture and its tolerance in social parlance. The print media will be the stakeholders and the target audience of the project. There are numerous cases of torture being reported on routine basis. Unfortunately, the media till now has mostly neglected the subject, as either the coverage given to such incidences are minimum or the right questions have not been raised by the journalist community. This makes evident, the lack of awareness within the media on the subject of torture, in relation to the Criminal Justice System. The project aims to map and identify the current level of sensitization within the print media, while engaging them in a structured set of activities, aimed at strengthening the capacity of the media, to help eradicate the practice of torture.
