Food security is a condition relating to the supply of food and people’s access to it. Food security is the "availability at all times of adequate world food supplies of basic foodstuffs to sustain a steady expansion of food consumption and to offset fluctuations in production and prices”. The lack of balanced diet with essential nutrients leads to chronic malnutrition. Concerns over food security have existed throughout history. In India, more than 30% of the population still lives below the poverty line. In recent years India has seen an impressive economic growth but it still struggles with widespread poverty and hunger. Urban homless are the most marginalized category even within the urban poor populations. They constitute nearly 100 million to one billion of the global population. A homeless person may be a person with no shelter or a person with temporary shelter or one with shelter that is very insecure.
The homeless population is likely to live on the roadside, pavements, drainage pipes, under staircases or in the open, temples or platforms.
Being rendered houseless means that most of the population is unable to cook or organize food for themselves and are therefore exposed to higher risk of food insecurity and
