Although some may say that the government is already too involved in the treatment of mental health, in order to further lower rates of depression and suicide in adolescents the government must stay involved and in some cases do more, including, increase the availability of treatment, improve mental health care in schools, and ameliorate the use of contemporary advancements in the mental health field. Mental health issues can also develop as a result of the way environmental factors change the ways genes are expressed. While genes sometimes influence a predisposition for certain traits, the way a child is treated can alter the way genes respond. This means that how you are raised can sometimes override a genetic predisposition to exhibit traits such as angry outbursts. The government could also expand the preventional hotlines. Opposers of further government involvement may state the Behavioral Health Treatment Services Locater, as well as the app Suicide Safe that can be used by health care and social workers. Since already such programs exist they may wonder why we need new ones. One reason we need more programs is because the rate of suicide is so high. We need to do everything we can to lower it. It would be great if suicide could become a thing of the past that no one ever has to dwell on again. However, currently that is not a reality. Also, many people don’t know about the Behavioral Health Treatment Services Locater or the app Suicide Safe; if we make more government approved apps and programs there is a more likely chance that suffering individuals will seek help. The government also needs to spread the word about these types of treatments. This could be as simple as an online ad.
