I agree with you that diversity is a must in law enforcement. If we are unwilling to diversify, we are handicapping ourselves as law enforcement. I appreciate the fact that you bring up community policing projects and being able to identify with the community and neighborhoods in which we serve.
My department is behind in this area, but are making a conscious effort to grow in this area. The application process and low numbers of applicants decrease our numbers of diverse applicants.
