An article dated from the early 2000’s stated that a publication by the American Probation and Parole Association (1996) highlights nearly 20 examples of community/citizen
Partnerships with correctional agencies, the number of examples today has tripled. The article further states that the examples were a spontaneous adaptation of the system to its lack of credibility and effectiveness. That in fact community justice within corrections was not consider a coherent practice, or based off any traditional cumulative empirical research.
Austin Texas, developed a stewardship that had called on the citizens of that community to hold some responsibility for the welfare of the larger community, and not only of the interests that interests their immediate needs. Furthermore, the community stewardship is helped achieved by the community justice council. The council is composed of 10 elected officials that includes persons from the city council, school boards, prosecutors, judges and legislators. The community cabinet helps to addressing community justice initiatives in the prisons, local county programs, and parole and probation. The council has appointed a victim restoration council who is responsible for the development of victim sensitive and victim responsive programs within the community. The department has stated that the most import aspect of their program is the involvement of the victims, they programs has established victim/offender mediation, and offender restitution
