Downfall Of Macbeth Essay

At the start go the play, Macbeth is shown to be a very loyal and honourable soldier to his country. The king, Duncan, and his men describe him with such qualities when they talk about his success in fighting the rebels. However, when Macbeth is finally introduced, he first appears talking to the witches, which share three predictions with him. Their predictions include him being the Thane of Cawdor, which later comes true, and becoming the king of Scotland. These predictions are the first thing responsible for putting the idea of being king in his head. During the play, other things appear that influences his ambitions. These influences are the things that affect his ambition to become king, which later causes his downfall. Two of the things that influence his ambitions are the witches predictions and his wife, Lady Macbeth’s, influence.

The play shows how Macbeth started working for his own future and tried to overcome any obstacles is his way. This is proved when he killed his loyal friend Banquo in order to protect his crown. The killing of Banquo is the climax of the play, and it also proves the highest Macbeth is willing to go to ignored to protect his crown. Macbeth starts obsessing with protecting his crown, however, he does not realise that what he is doing to obtain power will be the reason of his tragic and fatal downfall. Other that being king, Macbeth starts becoming a ruthless, immoral person, and that helps in leading him to his downfall.
In conclusion, Macbeth’s high ambitions for the throne, which are affected by many factors, are the main reasons for his tragic downfall. The main factors for his downfall are the witches’ prophecies and Lady Macbeth’s influences, but these are not the only reason for his downfall.
