Role Model In the 1960’s a role model may have been interpreted as a different personality than in todays modern world. Role models of the past have accomplished extraordinary achievements, while some of present role models are based upon on their actions that are shared by today’s social media. It seems though that it is easy to mistake the significant meaning of what characteristics a role model should have today. Now, I wasn’t born in the 1960’s, but I can assure that the definition in a dictionary of a role model hasn’t changed in the past 50 years. Personally, role modes are individuals who inspire us to accomplish something great in our lives and to bring out our best characteristics. His impressive career path and his life accomplishments fit the description in both my personal and formal definition of a role model. Armstrong has changed the course of history with one of Neil’s most famous phrases of all, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” This famous saying has made a lot of children in the past and present want to become an astronaut. When, whether children, or teenagers look up to an individual and want to follow in his or her footsteps, then you have a perfect example of a role …show more content…
In the essay “They’re not role models,” written by Raina Kelly, she argues that the athletes in NFL, which is filled with felons, and other athletes like Tiger Woods who are accused of exploits and criminal allegations, are not role models. There is also some truth to her statement, but the NFL isn’t just filled with felons and not all golf players like Tiger Woods have cheated n their wives. Many athletes are well known for their outreach towards the local communities and charities in their names. Drew Breese, who is a famous quarterback in the NFL, has helped local residents in St. Orleans rebuild their homes after hurricane Katrina has hit the east coast. Tim Duncan, a famous basketball player, has his own foundation, donating thousands of dollars towards health education and other charitable efforts. These are just a few examples of who the respectful are. Truth is, we should not look up to athletes or any famous individuals who are caught up with the law, but we can’t help to escape the media and it’s glorification of these
